What is FIS ( Faculty of International Studies ) ?

International Studies was one of the majors at the Faculty of History in 1993 with close association with the Department of World History. Vietnam National University, Hanoi decided to establish Faculty of International Studies belonging to University of Social Sciences and Humanities on October 21st, 1995. International Studies was then a new subject in Vietnam.
The Faculty is favored by Vietnam’s open policy and extension of its foreign relations and the University’s objective to become an interdisciplinary, multi-disciplinary instituation. The introduction of this new subject is met with many obstacles such as limitation of staff members, the inadequacy of curricula, textbooks, facilities and differences in the definition of International Studies.
After more than ten years of development, Faculty of International Studies has recorded some great achievements.
The Faculty provides three majors: International Relations (IR), European Studies and American Studies. In addition to completing and upgrading its undergraduate curricula, the Faculty has introduced its M.A program in International Relations, approved by Vietnam National University, Hanoi in May 2004.
Apart from training activities, the Faculty develops researches to serve its training activities and international integration. These researches focus on two objectives: to serve training activities and promote international integration. Researches, whose such topics are Globalization, International Relations after the Cold War, NAFTA, US Economy, US Foreign Policy, US Cultural Characteristics, EU Foreign Policy, German Culture, the Commonwealth, have served as textbooks and references. There are many other researches and scientific projects and articles published in prestigious journals.
The Faculty has 21 lecturers including one Assoc. Professor, 01 Dr of Science, 03 PhDs, 08 masters, five lecturers advancing their studies abroad and one BA.
The Faculty has been awarded by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi and in the academic year 2004 – 2005, was awarded Certificate of Merit from the Government.
Many staff members have been awarded with awards and titles such as People’s Teacher (01), Second Class Labor Order (01), First Class Labor Order (01), Certificate of Merit from Prime Minister (01) and Certificates of Merit from Vietnam National University, Hanoi (06)
